Mental Health patients can be divided into eight categories:
- The Mentally Ill Patient.
- The Chemically Dependent / Substance Abuse Patient.
- The Mentally Ill patient who is a Chemical Abuser and an Addict (MICAA).
- The Chemical Abuser who is Mentally Ill (CAMI)
- The Mentally Ill Patient who has a medical problem simultaneously.
- The Mentally Ill Patient who has a psychiatric problem due to an organic source / problem.
- Mental Illness due to Mental Retardation.
- Psychiatric Illnesses not defined above.
The magnitude, degree and range of behavioural/personality problems/deviance are immense and complex, requiring a multi-phased, multi-disciplinarian multi-leveled range of treatments, therapies and counseling techniques.
For efficacious patient treatment and an optimum outcome certain facilities are necessary and a certain kind of treatment area and treatment regimen is required. That is:
Treatment Area
- A high security ward where the patient cannot grievously harm himself or others and can go through the required acute phase of treatment under controlled conditions.
- A secure ward where the patient receives a protected environment, tender loving care, yet firm handling so the mental equilibrium is achieved physical health restored and a life style structure developed.
- A low security area where the patient can be given occupational and recreational therapy, as well as be given continuing support in the form of care during the day and counseling.

- The Lock & Key Wards – Male and Female – where the patients go through acute treatment. (Ward No. 3) – High Security.
- The Rehabilitation Centre for Addicts, Alcoholics and Dually diagnosed Patients (Ward No. 14) – Secure Ward.
- The Rehabilitation Centre for Psychiatric Patients (Ward No. 4 for men and ward No. 15 for ladies) – Secure ward.
- The Day Care Centre (Manav Foundation) – Low Security.
- Private room facilities – Medium security - are available.
